16 March 2023 : PIB Announcement
Defence Acquisition Council approves proposals worth Rs 70,500 crore for the Armed Forces & Indian Coast Guard under Buy (Indian-IDDM) category

Relevant Sections
A meeting of Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), held on March 16, 2023 under the chairmanship of Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh, has accorded Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for capital acquisition amounting to over Rs 70,500 crore under Buy {Indian-IDDM (Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured)}.
To keep pace with the emerging technologies and counter the adversaries in the Western and Northern front, the necessity of the new weapons and its integration with the delivery platforms was felt by the Government. To achieve the same objectives, the DAC accorded the approval to Indian Air Force’s proposal for Long Range Stand-Off Weapon (LRSOW) which will be indigenously designed, developed and integrated on SU-30 MKI aircraft.

08 September 2024
In March 2023, the DAC cleared IAF's proposal for an indigenously design, developed and manufactured Long Range Standoff Weapon (LRSOW) to be integrated on the Su-30MKI.
It has been learned that LRSOW now refers to Rudram 4, adding to DRDO's range of ground attack missiles.

24 April 2026 : RCI Tender
SCOPE OF WORK & QUALITY ASSURANCE PLAN : LRSOW -LAUNCHER PREPARATION STAND
(Tender Refrence Number : RCI/LRSOW/LPS/QAP/01)

Relevant Sections
Launcher Preparation Stand is to be developed for handling the Airborne Launcher which is 400 kg on ground. It should be a set of Two movable stands with Rotating Rings holding the Launcher in position. The Rings have to be rotated by a Gear Box to position the Launcher in required condition. The Stand should have capacity to hold Airborne Launcher which is 400 kg. Holding scheme with Launcher is shown in the schematic drawings attached. Launcher Preparation Stand is used for ground application of the launcher.

Personal Thoughts and Opinions

Based on my understanding of the leaks and unverified media reports (we all know how disastrous Indian Media's defence reporting is), here's what I think LRSOW will be
1. LRSOW is the project name for what will ultimately become Rudram 4 (no proof just a hunch, could turn out to be a Scramjet Hypersonic ALCM or Ramjet Supersonic ALCM or maybe anything else so take all this with a grain of salt)

2. It will borrow a lot of technologies and Warhead from Pralay Missile (Based on an India TV Pralay Reporting where it was mentioned that an Air to Ground Version of Pralay is in the works, and given the fact that no Indian Aircraft can carry a 5 ton Pralay even if the missile was extensively modified, it only makes sense that only certain technologies from Pralay would be borrowed)

3. Given the fact that the launcher of LRSOW will be heavier than that of Brahmos ALCM and measures only slightly short at 5700mm vs 6000mm we can make a few conjectures such as it being heavier than Brahmos ALCM (i.e over 2500 kg) and being similar in length at 8~8.5m and being limited to only Su 30 MKI just like Brahmos ALCM

4. In Interviews with  both India TV and NDTV DRDO Chief Samir V Kamat implied that Rudram 4 (LRSOW) will be longer ranged than its predecessor Rudram 3 and combining that info with point 3 we can safely assume that LRSOW will have a Range of nearly ~1000km.

5. And given the fact that such a long range under these weight (~2500 kg) constraints is not be possible for single Stage ALBMs, it only makes sense that LRSOW will be a multi stage missile like its predecessor Rudram 3

6. If a missile is going to be hit something at such a long range (~1000 km) it only makes sense for it to have a huge payload to maximize it's chances of scoring a mission kill and combined with what I said in point 2, I think LRSOW will have a 300-400 kg class warhead borrowed from Pralay
