MoD Annual Report 2020-21

Mine Influence Ground Mine (MIGM) : DRDO is involved in the design and development of MIGM capable of being triggered by multiple influences viz. acoustic, magnetic, hydrodynamic pressure, electric fields, and seismic vibration. Technical sea trials of the system were conducted in February 2020. During the trials, the advance mode of mine fire logic for target validation and triggering the mine was evaluated by target runs of 3 different ships.

MoD Annual Report 2021-22
Multi Influence Ground Mine (MIGM) : MIGM is an underwater naval mine equipped with precision sensors for triggering the mine based on multiple influences such as magnetic, electrical, acoustic, pressure and Extra Low Frequency Emissions (ELFE). MIGM is deployable from ships and submarines. Acoustic Counter Countermeasure (ACCM) features are inbuilt in the logic to discriminate between ship and hammer/ sweep. Advanced target classifier store signature of friendly ships has been incorporated in the mine to prevent firing against the set of friendly ships as and when detected.

MULTI INFLUENCE GROUND MINE
1. Introduction :
Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL), Visakhapatnam a Research and Development Laboratory under DRDO, MoD invites Expression of Interest (EOI) from Indian manufacturers having sufficient experiences, expertise and willingness to undertake production of Multi Influence Ground Mine (MIGM)

2. System Description :
Multi Influence Ground Mine (MIGM), design and developed by NSTL, DRDO with an aim to give Indian Navy an edge against most modern stealth ships. MIGM is deployable from ships, COOPs, submarines. This project involves state of the art technologies in FRP composites, electronics hardware, high density power packs, software and sensors for detection of different influences. MIGM has exercise as well as combat versions. MIGM operates in two modes Cable control mode and autonomous mode.
Transfer of technology will include dimensional drawings for manufacture of individual systems, integration details and documentation for operation and maintenance of the system.

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Navy have successfully undertaken combat firing (with reduced explosive) of the indigenously designed and developed Multi-Influence Ground Mine (MIGM). The system is an advanced underwater naval mine developed by the Naval Science & Technological Laboratory, Visakhapatnam in collaboration with other DRDO laboratories - High Energy Materials Research Laboratory, Pune and Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory, Chandigarh.

MIGM is designed to enhance the Indian Navy's capabilities against modern stealth ships and submarines. Bharat Dynamics Limited, Visakhapatnam and Apollo Microsystems Limited, Hyderabad are the production partners for the system.

Complimenting DRDO, Indian Navy and the Industry, Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh stated that the system will further enhance undersea warfare capabilities of the Indian Navy.

Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and Chairman DRDO Dr Samir V Kamat said, with this validation trial, the system is now ready for induction into the Indian Navy.
